As stated on the former page, one of Wernher's greatest achievements was the invention of the V-2 rocket. It was originally created to take people to space, but Hitler had different plans for this new machine. When the V-2 was invented, Wernher worked for the Army Rocket Center, German Ordnance Department and all the while, Hitler wanted to find a weapon he could use against other countries that did not violate the Treaty of Versailles signed after World War I. After seeing the rocket being launched into the air on October 3, 1942, Hitler thought that a rocket would be the perfect weapon to use to attack other countries and expand his empire all across Europe, and the best part was that rockets were not mentioned on the Treaty of Versailles. Once the war was over, and Wernher had surrendered to the Americans, he continued his work on making a rocket that could take someone to the moon one day, and years later he succeeded, with the rocket presently known as the Jupiter-C
The video above shows a test of Wernher's famous V-2 rocket.
